What?
PetSpeak is a cloud-based veterinary platform that helps clinicians better understand what’s happening with your pet during times of uncertainty through the power of data analytics. While veterinarians are incredible at what they do, it is an understatement to say that their work is never ending. Technicians, vet assistants, and receptionists, the lifeline of the clinic, can only be worked so much as well. To help pets in their time of need, we must be there for your clinic as an additional layer of support, enabling other pets to speak up for your pet without a bark, meow, or squeak spoken.
Why?
As of early 2025/2026, approximately 71% of U.S. households own a pet, amounting to roughly 94 million homes, according to data from the American Pet Products Association (APPA). People love their pets - they are our family, our friends, and are with us in the best and in the worst of times. However, illness and injury are bound to happen, and your pet cannot speak for themselves. In the human health care system, anyone can be your advocate (even the person being treated next to you). However, animals are unable to inform veterinarians without proper diagnostics; even then, diagnostics can sometimes be unclear, and trends can be uncertain. Our goal is simple, we want other animals to be the advocates for your pet in their time of need. While we aren't veterinarians ourselves, our backgrounds in data science have given us the confidence to ensure that other pets can inform your veterinarian without any hassle, any uncertainty, and above all else, without having to wait long times after collecting diagnostics.
How?
Using our cloud-based platform, veterinary clinics can identify diagnostic trends, access medical records faster, and unify fragmented IT systems into one cohesive environment, enabling veterinarians to determine diagnoses and treatment plans more efficiently and at higher throughput.

Jorge Salazar is currently a second-year Ph.D. student in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BCMB) at the University of California, Riverside. He is an Eagle Scout, husband, and devoted pet owner. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Alexis, and their two dogs, Ruth and Coco, whose companionship has deepened his appreciat

He enjoys spending time with his wife, Alexis, and their two dogs, Ruth and Coco, whose companionship has deepened his appreciation for how much animals rely on us to understand their needs. After losing his cat to unknown medical complications during his first year of graduate school, and inspired by his doctoral research, Jorge set out to make a meaningful impact through PetSpeak, a cloud-based software platform in current development which aims to help veterinary clinics obtain pet medical records quicker, and to use data more effectively to improve diagnosis and care.
